About Alexander
"This is how a tenor should deliver a role. Yes, technique matters; but soul is where it's at."
Once described by the BBC as “England’s Mario Lanza” Alexander Grove is an award-winning lyric-spinto tenor performing internationally, known for his wide range of repertoire, interpretations, stagecraft and acting ability and warm toned flexible vocal ability.
A former boy chorister of St Paul’s Cathedral, London and trained as a tenor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Georg Solti Accademia di Bel Canto in Italy, Alexander’s solo career spans the opera, oratorio, concert and musical theatre stages, television, radio and recordings: from recording at Abbey Road Studios, London to performing to capacity crowds of over 30,000 per night in some of Europe’s largest venues such the O2 Arena, to lead roles in opera houses around Europe.
Having trained under or performed with some of the world’s most respected artists such as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Nicolai Gedda and Sir Georg Solti amongst many others, Alexander established himself early on as a versatile and respected soloist. His career has taken him all over the world from the USA to Japan and as far flung as Teatro Amazonas in the Amazonian rainforest.
Alexander is also a resident member of the Gothenburg Opera, Sweden: one of Northern Europe’s leading opera houses.
In addition to performing, Alexander is a vocal + stagecraft coach and consultant. He supports students through his private studio: Gothenburg’s Opera & Vocal Studio as well as being a former Visiting Fellow of the University of Aberdeen and is often invited to teach or give masterclasses in stagecraft, vocal technique and stage fighting in specialist institutions, opera houses and music colleges.
He is also a published opera critic reviewing for various online classical music and operatic publications.
